SOCIOCRACY
Sociocracy: Every voice is heard

Sociocracy is a form of government/education based on the equality of individuals. This equality is expressed in the consent principle: a decision can only be taken when none of those present has a substantiated and paramount objection against that decision.

Teachers, students, and parents jointly govern the school. Together they are responsible for the quality of life and learning at De Vrije Ruimte.

In a sociocratic government, the organization is made of circles: groups, each having a purpose, mandate, and responsibility of their own.
Permanent circles at De Vrije Ruimte are:

- the Monday-morning circles;
- the Student circle;
- the Teachers and coaches circle;
- the Parents' circle;
- the School circle
and
- the Board circle.

To support the school there are other circles in place, where parents as well as students and teachers are involved:

- the Communications circle;
- the Financials circle;
- the Administration circle;
- the Facilitation circle.
Everybody involved can contribute their knowledge, ideas, and experience to keep the school alive and in flow.
